How Character Meets Work
This is not a normal meet experience. Don't expect autographs, no one signs, even if they usual do. All of them should have a photopass photographer but you need to have bought the run weekend photopass. A normal park one won't cover it. You can take a camera but you will most likely need to hand this to someone stood behind you or a friend. The rule is also one picture each. These are quick in and out photo opportunities. You'll be lucky to more than 10 seconds per person.

Queues do get shut. This is often caused by people taking too long. It's more of an issue on the 10k and half marathon as they need to get you through the parks before they open. You also need to make sure your keeping within the allowed race pace.
2016 vs 2017
In 2017 the 10k run was introduced at Disneyland Paris, this seemed to result in a reduction of characters during the 5k. The number of locations dropped from about 9 to 4 (plus a photo location) and the character count dropped from about 19 to 12. This may have also been due to the 5k being moved to the Friday evening and an after party being in the Walt Disney Studios Park straight afterwards. The same location as the finish line. This party has been dropped this year. Hopefully this will provide more photo opportunities at the end of the race where the big 5 are usually dressed in their running gear.
Character swapping
One big thing to be aware of is that just because you join a queue for a character doesn't guarantee they will be there when you get to the front. There are time limits on how long someone can be out without a break, depending on the heat this can be reduced. Normally it is 30 minutes but can be reduced to 20 for some, especially short characters such as Boo and Sultan.

The theme for 2018's runs is villains but it's noticeable that the official press release lists the 5k as "highlighting the universe of Marvel" rather than Marvel Villains. This is probably due to a lack of Marvel Villains appearing in the parks. The recent Marvel Annual Pass Soirée gives us an indication of who can be met. Given that the Summer of Marvel is also running there are also additional characters that can be used.

Characters Likely to be out
1. Loki - He is the only Marvel villain to appear at the Marvel AP Soirée and Summer of Marvel and meet people. Yokai is the only other Marvel villain to ever appear in Paris.

2. Captain America - He had been available daily during Summer of Marvel and during the Marvel signature buffet.
3. Spiderman - He as been part of the character meets in Paris for years and recently received a costume upgrade as part of signature Marvel experience.
4. Thor - He met people alongside Loki at the Marvel AP Soirée and had been meeting people at the Marvel buffet.
5. Black Widow - She met people at the Marvel AP Soirée and had been meeting people at the Marvel buffet.
6 & 7. Star Lord/Gamora - Appearing during the Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Dance Off show during the summer and both being speaking characters this makes them highly likely to do their first meets.
Don't Expect To Meet These
Thanos - In the new Marvel show, Thanos is only displayed on screens. There has been no physical appearance. Despite appearing on the medal, it is expected he will be projected on the Hollywood Tower of Terror.

Hulk - As with Thanos, he has only appeared digitally in the shows. There is also a large model of him. Bruce Banner is a possibility.
Big Hero 6 - Technically Marvel but also listed as a Disney Animated Classic. They were nowhere to be seen at the Marvel AP Soirée despite being out at FanDaze. They have also not been used during the Summer of Marvel. Baymax has also not appeared in Paris.
Drax/Rocket/Groot/Mantis - None of these have ever appeared in Paris though Groot and baby Groot have appeared in America.
Red Skull/Ronan/Ego/Hela - Major Marvel villains that have all appeared in recent films but are yet to make park appearances.

There are fairly standard meet locations on the run routes. This is partly due to spacing them out but also from a practical and safety stand point.
