Review: Pin Trading Brunch at Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris run pin trading nights monthly throughout the year but they also run two themed brunches a year. We attended our first one of these which was themed to Mickey Mouse. This was one of the first events in the lead up to Mickey's 90th and the name translated to "it all started with a mouse". We've never been to a Pin Trading night or event before. In fact, we're relatively new to pin trading.

What was on offer
The event was being hosted in the conference center at New Port Bay. It included a brunch, a basic lanyard, the ability to buy exclusive pins, character meet and greets and the chance to get your new pins signed by the designers. There was some theming on the stage but the stage itself wasn't used.

Three characters were available to meet, Mickey, Minnie and Pluto. They were out twice each in turn for 30 minutes.

How it works
The event ran from 11:00 to 3:00. After you register you are assignes a table. Each table is round with a long table attached for people to display their pins to aid in them trading with others.
Half an hour in the pin sales started. The queue was about 20 minutes but stayed at this length until 2:30 when second chance sales began. There was also a raffle at the end of the event but unfortunately we had to leave to go head home before it was drawn.

The Pins
The pins were a really nice collection (despite the error of the release year on the Stitch pin). Everyone gets the chance to buy the full set or any combination of the pins. You also take a raffle ticket and then can go up in ticket order for a second round of purchases. Each pin was limited to 425 with just 400 tickets available for the event. We opted to buy 6 of them. Having purchased one pin we were then entitled to a free pin trading pin. The free pin was predetermined.

Apart from one large pin at €49, the pins were priced at either €15 and €18. Annual pass discount was available on all the pins.

Overall thoughts
The event is basically a nicer way to queue to buy exclusive pins. We were there for a couple of hours before we got our pins. The food was decent but unspectacular. A mix of standard cold and hot breakfast options and half a dozen hot dinner dishes. There were also a few standard buffet desert items. Hot drinks were included as well as bottled water on the tables. You could very well be in and out within the hour if you'd eaten food and headed straight the the pin sale. It really is for the dedicated pin collector or those that really must have a pin from this specific collection.

Value
We paid £48 per person. There are no child discounts. The food was on the top end of the Disneyland Paris buffets, and with three characters available to meet, was probably not too far off the right price. The reality was that you're mainly paying to be able to buy the pins. We had already had three character breakfasts that week. Though we only paid a small upgrade fee for those. Even at €40 each full price, they were probably better value. Certainly a better option if you don't want to buy the pins.
